What are canarians?
Canary Islanders, or Canarians (Spanish: canarios), are a Romance people and ethnic group. The Canarians, and their descendants, played a major role during the conquest, colonization, and eventual independence movements of various countries in Latin America.
Do Guanches still exist?
Today, Guanches are considered a lost culture. Spanish colonization and the slave trade had all but wiped out these natives of the island chain. It’s a sad demise for a culture that not only first colonized the archipelagos off the coast of Northwest Africa, but had established trade with the Roman Empire.

Why were the islenos desirable to the Spanish colony?
The Borgnemouth Community was established in 1904 at the mouth of the Violet Canal. The canal connected the Mississippi River to Lake Borgne, and soon became another settlement inhabited by Isleño trappers, commercial fishermen and farmers.
