Diisopropylamine swells PDMS to the greatest extent; solvents such as chloroform, ether, and THF swell the material to a large extent. Solvents such as acetone, 1-propanol, and pyridine swell the material to a small extent. Dilute sulphuric acid does not etch PDMS away.
How do you dissolve cured PDMS?
IsoPropyl alcohol is the best way to remove the remaining uncured PDMS. The alternative is: Using Piranha solution (Hydrogen peroxide and Sulphuric acid in the ratio of 2:3 by volume).
Is PDMS soluble in DMF?
Solubility: most chlorinated, hydrocarbon, or ethereal solvents. Insoluble in MeOH, EtOH, glycerol, and water. Limited solubility in DMF and DMSO. Form Supplied in: PDMS thimbles are fabricated from commercially available Sylgard 184 – a two-component prepolymer of PDMS.
Does hexane dissolve PDMS?
The common solvent used to dilute the PDMS for thin films is hexane, but hexane can swell the underlying PDMS substrate. A better solvent would be one that dissolves uncured PDMS but doesn’t swell the underlying substrate.
Is PDMS hydrophilic or hydrophobic?
PDMS is a hydrophobic material (water contact angle >100°)6, which has consequences for droplet-based microfluidics. To successfully generate droplets, the continuous (i.e., external) phase needs to effectively wet the device walls; therefore, PDMS is ideally suited for the generation of water-in-oil (w/o) droplets7.
What solvent dissolves PDMS?
Among the commonly used solvents, chloroform, ether, and xylene are highly compatible with PDMS. They have a solubility parameter (SP, d) in the range of 7.3–9.5 cal½cm-3/2. PDMS will absorb these solvents from a microchannel, and the polymer will saturate with the solvent over time.
Does PDMS dissolve in water?
PDMS compounds such as amodimethicone, are effective conditioners when formulated to consist of small particles and be soluble in water or alcohol/act as surfactants (especially for damaged hair), and are even more conditioning to the hair than common dimethicone and/or dimethicone copolyols.
Is PDMS polar?
The surface of PDMS is highly inert; therefore, surface modification can be difficult to achieve. As the silanol groups are polar, the treated surface is easily wettable with polar solvents.
Is PDMS soluble in water?
Is PDMS soluble in chloroform?
Is PDMS hydrophobic?
PDMS is a hydrophobic material (water contact angle >100°)6, which has consequences for droplet-based microfluidics. In response to this, there have been efforts to modify the PDMS surface to become hydrophilic.
