How to Submit the Common App
- Step 1: Navigate to My Colleges. Once you’ve logged in to your Common App account, start by navigating to the My Colleges tab.
- Step 2: Complete the Questions Section.
- Step 3: Make Sure the Recommenders Section is Complete.
- Step 4: Complete the Writing Section Before Hitting Submit.
How does submitting the Common App work?
The Common App asks transfer students to list any college or university attended, dates of enrollment, college coursework completed and GPA. An essay for transfer students is also required. Common App updated the transfer essay requirement last year, making the question prompts the same as for first-time applicants.
Does it matter when you submit Common App?
Submitting an application early offers students the advantage of confirming that materials have been received by the deadline. Most deadlines are “received by” dates, not “post-marked” dates. Students should try to apply to schools with a Rolling deadline program by November 1.
What happens after I submit my Common App?
Following the submission of your application, all of the information you have provided is sent to the Common Application’s data warehouse where it is electronically distributed to the schools on your college list. From there, university admissions offices are able to download all of your information securely.
Is it better to apply through common app or directly?
A: The Common App adds efficiency, but use it wisely. The benefit for students is that they fill out responses to questions that all of these institutions have in common but used to ask independently (and the student completed multiple times). Obviously, this is more efficient.
How do I know if I submitted my common app?
As you progress through the application process, you’ll receive important notifications and critical alerts. Applicants are responsible for monitoring these notifications and following up on any required actions. To view your notifications, click View My Notifications on the left side of the application dashboard.
Is the Common App open for 2021?
Most college applications — including the Common Application and the Coalition for College — opened on August 1, 2021, for students who plan to start school in fall 2022.
What is the disadvantage of the Common Application?
The only disadvantage, which students can directly control themselves, is that they should not apply to schools that may not be the best match for their interests, simply because it is easy to add more schools to their list in The Common Application.
Does applying late hurt your chances?
Most rolling admissions schools have a limited number of student slots, and as they judge and accept applications, those slots get filled. If you apply too late, then there’s a good chance all the slots may be filled, and you’ll be out of luck.
Does Common App let you submit after deadline?
Do not wait until the last minute. You can submit your application up until 11:59 PM in your local time zone on the deadline date; however, ensure you allow for time to complete the required payment section.
Is the Common App hard to fill out?
While the Common App may seem like the most daunting piece of applying to college, it is, surprisingly, the simplest part of the process. It asks you questions about yourself that you actually know, like your name, address, phone number, etc. Do not hesitate to begin filling out the Common App.
How many essays are required for the Common App?
The Common App has 1 required essay question, but many of the participating colleges also require supplemental essays, which are different for each college. So if students are applying to 7 colleges, they can easily have more than 20 essay questions!
Can I submit Common App before recommendation?
Keep in mind, you can submit your application through The Common App before your recommenders submit their letters. That means you can’t use your teachers’ potential procrastination as an excuse for your own.
How should I Write my Common App essay?
Your Common App essay must display excellent writing in terms of grammar and sentence structure. The essay doesn’t need to be a Shakespearean masterpiece, but it should be well-written and clear. A few tips to accomplish this are: Show, don’t tell. Be specific. Choose active voice, not passive voice. Avoid clichés.
