Start out by heading north on the John Muir Trail. You will pass Shadow Lake; walk around the south side of the lake for mountain views. Then, follow the trail up Shadow Creek until you reach the junction with the Ediza Lake Trail, and continue east.

The easiest route to Banner Peak is class 2 from the Ritter-Banner saddle ascending its southwest slope. The saddle can be approached from Lake Catherine on the west side (class 2, but longer) or from Ediza Lake on the east side (class 3). Can you drive to Agnew Meadows?
Driving Directions Drive to Minaret Summit, and continue another 2.6 miles to where the road makes a hairpin turn south. Turn right here along a dirt road to reach the trailhead/campground. Be forewarned that the road is closed to passenger vehicles from Minaret Summit onwards during the day.
