Each year, four Magic sets are released and added to Standard. Once per year, when the fall set releases, the four oldest sets in Standard rotate out.
Is AFR modern legal?
These cards are numbered 1–281 (including twenty basic lands) and have printed set code AFR. These cards are legal for play in the Commander, Vintage, and Legacy formats. They aren’t legal for play in the Standard, Pioneer, or Modern formats.
Why is cauldron familiar banned?
Perhaps the most unexpected ban in today’s surprise announcement was given to Cauldron Familiar, a common from Throne of Eldraine. Wizards is therefore banning Cauldron Familiar in order to “weaken these sacrifice strategies, open up more metagame diversity, and create a more fun gameplay environment.”
How long is a MTG pre-release?
With each round taking one hour and the first 90 minutes being set aside to hand out prerelease packs to that many people, open booster packs and build a deck to play with, that gives you an end time of 8:30am.
How many land cards should be in a magic deck?
Playing a card means announcing the spell and paying its mana cost. That takes lands. The basic rule of thumb is that you play 17-18 lands in a 40 card deck, and 24 lands in a 60 card deck. If you are playing more than a couple cards with mana costs of five or higher, increase the number of lands.
Are dungeons Commander legal?
These cards are legal for play in the Commander, Vintage, and Legacy formats. They aren’t legal for play in the Standard, Pioneer, or Modern formats. Cards from the main set retain their own symbol and code.
Are dungeons allowed in Commander?
Dungeons aren’t cards in the traditional sense. They can’t go into your deck, and their main function is as a specialized progress marker. That’s fine in Commander and they’ll work as normal.

Walking Ballista is banned. Underworld Breach is banned. Wilderness Reclamation is suspended.
