In 1967 noted landscape architect Nagao Sakurai began its design. After his stroke in 1973, designs were completed by Shosuke Nagai and Hirohiko Kawai and the garden was dedicated in 1974.

Can you get married at Manito Park?
The gardens cannot be closed for a wedding, or any private function. The general visiting public is our priority. As visitors and taxpayers, they provide the funding to operate the gardens. The gardens are available for standing ceremonies only.
Are dogs allowed in Manito Park?
Yes dogs are allowed in the park but MUST be on a leash. Thank you for respecting the other park visitors by not letting your dog off leash in the park.
Who created Manito Park?

In 1884, Francis Cook bought 40 acres at the top of the Grand Blvd hill, where the Cathedral of St. John now stands. He developed a farm there just outside the townsite. Two years later he purchased another 160 acres which includes all of the present Manito Park.
