No statistical differences were detected in the success rates between the 2 anesthetics after the block injections. Conclusions: Supplementing an incomplete articaine IANB with articaine infiltration raises the anesthetic success more effectively compared with lidocaine in mandibular molars with irreversible pulpitis.
Is articaine more toxic than lidocaine?
Articaine (carticaine) Articaine is 1.5 times as potent and only 0.6 times as toxic as lidocaine and has been shown to be superior in achieving successful anaesthesia following infiltration.
When do you use articaine?

Does lidocaine or Articaine last longer?
Conclusion: Both articaine solutions produced shorter onset and longer duration of pulpal anesthesia by maxillary infiltration than the lidocaine solution did. Statistical analysis did not confirm better clinical results of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine than with 4% articaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine.
Is Articaine and Septocaine the same?

Are articaine and lidocaine the same?
4 % Articaine offers better clinical performance than 2 % Lidocaine, particularly in terms of latency and duration of the anesthetic effect. However, no statistically significant differences in anesthetic efficacy were recorded between the two solutions.

Does Articaine last longer than lidocaine?
Articaine efficacy Articaine pulpal anaesthesia lasts between 30 and 120 min, a duration longer than lidocaine, mepivacaine and prilocaine. Articaine soft tissue anaesthesia lasts ~2.25 h for maxillary infiltrations and 4 h for mandibular blocks.

Is articaine the same as Septocaine?
Is it safe to use lidocaine instead of articaine?
Lidocaine is 2% and is much safer than the other concentrations. Although Articaine is a good anesthetic, if it is used, I would limit it to Maxillary infiltrations. We all struggle with profound, 100% anesthesia from time to time. Articaine is not the answer. Go with safety first, deal with the difficulty of profound anesthesia another way.
Did you have any problems with articaine?
We problems with 2 different patients. One patient experienced numbness for several months following a lower right block with articaine. One patient had an area of necrosis of the hard palate after receiving a palatal injection of articaine. These incidents scared me into only using lidocaine.

Do you use articaine for parethesia?
The evidence of parethesia is anecdotal as there is no good evidence for parethesia being more common using Articaine. This anesthetic is just too good and safe not to use. It has only been available in the US since 2001 or so. I use it for blocks and will continue to.
