Foil-faced bubble wrap is a radiant barrier. It’s not insulation. A radiant barrier reduces heat transfer by radiation and has two excellent applications in homes. Insulation reduces heat transfer by conduction through solid materials.
Does foil faced insulation work?
RadiantGUARD® foil faced insulation is completely different. This barrier actually reflects radiant energy that can translate into heat, thereby reducing gain in the summer and loss in the winter. In fact, foil bubble insulation can reflect upwards of 95-97% of the radiant heat that strikes it making it very effective.
Does double bubble foil insulation work?
The double bubble does assure that there’s an isolated air pocket across the entire surface of the material; however, since the two layer of bubbles are pretty thin, it’s not great insulation.
Can you put Reflectix over insulation?
Reflectix can be used as basement ceiling insulation when precisely stapled to the centers of the floor joists above. The product must be applied tightly, with room for airflow. One benefit of using Reflectix over fiberglass insulation is that Reflectix resists mold and mildew well.
Does Reflectix work if covered?
Note: if you cover Reflectix it essentially negates its insulating value as its mechanism of action is reflecting heat off its aluminum face (hence the name). Sandwiching Reflectix between two pieces of fabric means it is doing very little insulating.
Can Reflectix be used as a vapor barrier?
The product provides a vapor/moisture barrier, which is a strong contributor to the efficiency of the system. Reflectix® is available in convenient roll sizes which contributes to ease of handling and installation.

Foil-faced insulation can use in a wide range for commercial and residential applications:
- Exterior wall,
- Roof,
- Ceiling applications (like in cathedral ceilings – frequently required for use in ceilings without attics)
Is foil faced insulation a vapor barrier?
