The ARE is an extremely difficult exam. It is not uncommon for individuals to fail portions of the exam. It is normal for individuals to spend 2-4 years finishing the ARE and many people do not pass every exam on the first try. There are many resources available to help you prepare for the exam.

Are 5.0 Fail?
A pass/fail decision on ARE 5.0 is determined by the total number of items answered correctly; however, performance in the content areas with the larger percentage of content will have the greatest impact on a score.
Is 5.0 a test order?
ARE 5.0 consists of 6 exams:

- Project Management (PjM)

Which is harder PPD or PDD?
It has the broadest content of all six exams. Scale wise, PPD is somewhere between the PA and the PDD. For PPD, the phases would be Schematic Design and Design Documentation Phases, which are also the hardest phases of a design and construction process in my opinion.
Are 5.0 PDD pass rates?

Are tests eligibility?
Candidates may apply for an ARE eligibility evaluation at any time they believe the requirements have been met. A candidate must obtain five years of experience under the direct supervision of a licensed architect or the equivalent in accordance with the Board’s regulations and possess an active NCARB Record.

How hard is the Architect Registration Exam?
In order to call yourself an architect (or even state that you provide architectural services) you have to pass the architectural registration exam – the ARE. It is a grueling 7-part test that if you sat through them end to end, it would take you 33 and a half hours .
