In some cases, an individual can have more than one SSN. For example, when SSA assigns consecutive SSNs to members of the same family, one of the individuals can request a new SSN. If SSA assigns an individual more than one SSN, the Agency generally cross- refers it electronically in its records.
How many SSN can you have?
You may receive no more than three replacement social security number cards in a year and ten replacement social security number cards per lifetime. We may allow for reasonable exceptions to these limits on a case-by-case basis in compelling circumstances.
Is SSN valid for lifetime?
Though a Social Security number itself never expires, and the one you have will always be yours, even if you become legal in the future, you are technically not supposed to use it for employment or other purposes.
Can a cop ask you for your SSN?
You are under NO obligation to disclose your SSN to any member of law enforcement for any reason whatsoever. In fact, you are also under no obligation to provide that number even to your Doctor (most will ask, though) or to anybody else, except for employment, banking, and insurance (and maybe a few other) purposes.

Most of the time, to either access an existing account or open up a new bank account, the bank would require additional forms of identification, such as your physical Social Security card, Real ID or passport.
What can a scammer do with your Social Security number?
A dishonest person who has your Social Security number can use it to get other personal information about you. Identity thieves can use your number and your good credit to apply for more credit in your name. Then, they use the credit cards and don’t pay the bills, it damages your credit.
