Spiritbond, or Spiritbonding, is the process of creating Materia. Weapons, Armor and Accessories will acquire spiritbond as you gain experience points from defeating monsters, crafting items or gathering resources. Once equipment reaches 100% spiritbond, a piece of materia can be extracted from it, returning it to 1%.
How do I increase my spirit Bond?
HQ gear increases the rate of bonding by 20%. Each piece of materia bound to the gear being spiritbonded will also increase rate of bonding by +20%. Various items (shown as Increased Spiritbond Gain) will increase the rate at which spiritbond is gained. There are also several buffs available.

Best way to spiritbond gear is at Urth’s Fount, South Shroud. Stick loads of whatever 45-50 gear you want on, leave your weapon, then kill the water sprites til done. Yes you can get IV materia from 45+ gear, low chance, but even when you don’t you can sell the level III ones and then buy the extra IV materia.
How do you get materia?
Players can acquire materia by extracting it from pieces of equipment with 100% spiritbond. Spiritbond percentage increases as you use that piece of armor in battle, crafting or gathering.
Does extracting Materia destroy the item?
As of patch 5.2 you no longer destroy a piece of equipment if you extract materia from it, and you can even pull the stat boosting orbs from high-end gear.
What are Aetherial items Ffxiv?
Aetherial Items are weapons, armor and accessories with Aetherial at the start of their names. Aetherial items also have pink names and pink icons. These items are usually dropped in dungeon chests and are untradable and unsellable. They can also be found in Battlecraft Leves.
Can you buy Materia?
The fastest way is to buy Materia from Market Board with FFXIV Gil. If you want to make Materia yourself, you must complete the Forging the Spirit quest. The quest giver is Swynbroes, located at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (23, 13). Materia is created from equipment once its spiritbond has reached 100%.

Nuts for Materia VII/VIII Sack of Nuts are the new hunt currency in Shadowbringers, and they provide you with the ability to purchase Materia VIIs for 150 nuts and VIIIs for 400 nuts. To obtain these nuts on your own, visit the Hunt Board in Crystarium and fulfill the daily and weekly Hunts.
Is there any reason not to extract Materia Ffxiv?
Extract Materia will be grayed out if the spiritbond is not at 100%, so you can’t accidentally reset the gear. From early testing it appears that materia grade is determined by the item level of the equipment you are pulling it from, with 450 gear giving grade seven materia and 460 gear creating grade eight.

4 runs of Syrcus Tower is generally sufficient to spiritbond item level 90 gear. Grade 4 materia has the same drop rate when spiritbonding level 45 gear as a level 55 class. Because level 45 gear usually bonds faster in the popular locations, it is best to spiritbond equipment that is closer to level 45.
