The Arrow® Seldinger Arterial Catheter is designed to improve patient safety by eliminating confusion of catheter identification, reduce complications associated with insertion technique, and provide optimal performance leading to effective treatment for patients.
How is an arterial line inserted?
Your doctor or nurse inserts a small tube (catheter) through the skin into the artery and usually sews it in place. The catheter connects to tubing filled with salt water (saline) and a transducer device. The transducer turns a pressure signal from inside the artery into an electrical signal.
How do you secure a radial arterial line?
Securing the Line
- Suture the line in place.
- Tips: Consider taping transducer tubing to thigh to help hold line in place. Take a generous bite through skin just underneath the distal portion of the catheter. Tie over top of the catheter and cut suture.
- Add biopatch and place a sterile dressing.
What is the Seldinger technique used for?
The Seldinger technique is used for angiography, insertion of chest drains and central venous catheters, insertion of PEG tubes using the push technique, insertion of the leads for an artificial pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, and numerous other interventional medical procedures.
Where is an arterial line placed?
Arterial lines can be placed in the radial, ulnar, brachial, axillary, posterior tibial, femoral, and dorsalis pedis arteries. In both adults and children, the most common site of cannulation is the radial artery.
Does an arterial line hurt?
Having a needle put into an artery is more painful than having it put into a vein. That’s because the arteries are deeper and are near nerves. If you are awake at the time, your medical team will use medicine to numb the area first. Any mild discomfort usually gets better after the line is in place.
What is a femoral arterial line?
The femoral artery is an option that is often employed when radial catheters cannot be placed. It is a relatively easy artery to cannulate, and may be more accurate in sepsis when high dose pressors are used.
Where is the femoral artery location?
thigh
The location of the femoral artery is at the top of your thigh in an area called the femoral triangle. The triangle is just below your groin, which is the crease where your abdomen ends and your legs begin. The femoral artery runs to the lower thigh and ends behind the knee.
Is an arterial line Painful?
Where is arterial line placed?
Arterial line placement, or arterial cannulation, is typically placed in the radial artery in the forearm or the femoral artery in the thigh. Arterial line placement, or arterial cannulation, is a commonly performed procedure, especially for patients in critical care and some anesthetic settings.
What is the Arrow® integrated arterial catheter?
With its over-needle design, the Arrow ® Integrated Arterial Catheter allows for quick and easy insertions with high success rates. Often referred to as “the dart” because of its design, it was the first integrated arterial catheter offered. Today, it continues to deliver on its leading-edge innovation.
What is an art line in a catheter?
Arterial line. An arterial line (also art-line or a-line) is a thin catheter inserted into an artery.
