Overview. Located inside of Understone Keep in Markarth, it is the home to Nimhe, a giant Frostbite Spider. This excavation site also contains Alethius’s Notes in Nimhe’s lair, which begins the quest “The Lost Expedition.”

Walkthrough
- Destroy the large web just to the south of Alethius’ body to get access to Nchuand-Zel.
- Dispatch the two Falmer on the walkway and platform in the next room easily with a bow.
- Enter the Quarters and the first dead end hallway to the left contains a Large Dwemer Decorative Strut and a Bent Dwemer Scrap Metal.

Most of Understone Keep will respawn after 10 days. However, the Dwemer Museum and Calcelmo’s Laboratory never respawn.
Can you fast travel to Blackreach?
The quickest way to the surface is by using any of the three “Great Lifts”, elevator shafts leading to gatehouses on the surface. These lifts can only be accessed from Blackreach; however, once you open the gate at the top of the lift, it becomes a new access point for Blackreach, with a fast-travel marker on your map.
How do I get to Blackreach without a quest?
You can access Blackreach via Alftand, Mzinchaleft or Raldbthar. At the bottom of each Dwemer ruin is the same access mechanism that lowers the stairs to a door that leads to Blackreach, all you need is the Attunement Sphere from Septimus Signus.
